Green Business Boasts Collective Impact
CSPP interns featured in Green Business Santa Barbara County newsletter
University of California, Santa Barbara
12 April 2012
Through a partnership with Green Business Santa Barbara County, interns Rebecca Hausheer and Sean Calvin have embarked on a project to reduce the role of automotive repair shops as point-source pollutants. They are currently overseeing the GBSBC certification of Ayers Repairs and will ascertain how applying sustainable business practices in automotive shops can impact the well-being of our coast. As Rebecca and Sean continue their work, we are grateful for the support and guidance of program mentor and Santa Barbara County Green Business Coordinator Frances Gilliland.
The Coastal Stewardship and Policy Program will be attending Santa Barbara's Earth Day Festival alongside Green Business Santa Barbara County on April 21st and 22nd. Be sure to stop by our table for more information on ongoing and upcoming projects!
CALPIRG Oceans Fair 2012
Sustainable Business Development Interns increase awareness of ocean pollution.
University of California, Santa Barbara
6 March 2012
The Coastal Stewardship and Policy Program was thrilled to participate in the 2012 CALPIRG Ocean Fair. The program worked alongside student organizations to prevent ocean pollution through educational games and activities. Sustainable Business Development Interns Rebecca Hausheer and Sean Calvin oversaw the program activity booth--a spin wheel that tested students knowledge of automotive shops and their impact on the coast.
A special thank you to all participating organizations:
The Coastal Stewardship and Policy Program is dedicated to protecting, preserving and enhancing the coastal environment through student-led internship projects. The program was created in April of 2011 and continues to develop an enduring alliance of students, faculty, local agencies and non-profit organizations.
The program seeks to employ the creative and intellectual potential of students through hands-on internship projects managed in coordination with local non-profit organizations and agencies. Our projects aim to protect the coastal environment through policy, regulations, community engagement and education.
The program is housed in the Geography Department in Ellison Hall and operates with a grant-based budget, sponsored by the Coastal Fund. The program is advised by Katie Maynard, the Research and Education Coordinator for Campus Sustainability, and managed by Caitlin Russell.
A brief overview of current projects and the winter-spring internship applications are available. If you are interested in learning more, partnering with the program, or interning with us, please contact us or fill out an application.
Thank you for visiting.
